How to Apply for the NDIS
Applying for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) can seem overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to be. Follow these simple steps to get started on your journey to receiving the support you need.
Step 1: Check Your Eligibility
First, you need to check if you are eligible for the NDIS. You must:
- Be under 65 years of age
- Be an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa
- Have a permanent and significant disability that affects your ability to take part in everyday activities

Step 2: Make an Access Request
Once you confirm your eligibility, you need to make an access request. Here’s how:
- Call the NDIS on 1800 800 110 and ask for an Access Request Form.

Step 3: Gather Your Evidence
Collect evidence to support your application. This includes:
- Medical reports and assessments from your healthcare providers
- Details of your disability and how it impacts your daily life
- Fill in the Supporting Evidence Form
Step 4: Submit Your Access Request Form
Complete the Access Request Form and attach your supporting evidence. Then, submit the form:
- By mail to the address provided on the form
- By email to NAT@ndis.gov.au or enquiries@ndis.gov.au
Step 5: Wait for the Outcome
The NDIA (National Disability Insurance Agency) will review your application. This process can take several weeks – months. They may contact you for additional information or clarification.
Step 6: Develop Your NDIS Plan
