Our founders, Aaron and Amy began their journey in the healthcare sector with Aaron as a pharmacist and Amy as a registered nurse and social worker. Moving out of their family homes for the first time and sharing living spaces with colleagues, they discovered the value of living with like-minded people. This experience of sharing spaces, yet maintaining personal autonomy, was eye-opening.
Their journey took a significant turn when they became SIL providers in 2020. They witnessed first-hand the challenges in the disability housing sector—participants lacking choice, providers struggling, and societal expectations that everyone should live alone. They realized that a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work; some people thrive in shared living arrangements, while others prefer solitude. However, NDIS participants and people living with a disability were rarely given the opportunity to choose.
Seeing the gaps in the current landscape, Aaron and Amy knew they could create a solution that benefits all stakeholders, without favouring one over the other. They envisioned a platform that empowers participants with the autonomy to make their own living choices, while supporting providers to offer better, more compatible services, without the constant threat of financial hardship.
Today, Aaron and Amy still live with Aaron’s family in a 40ft shipping container, because it works for them. They share their space but also value their privacy. They have that choice, and now they are on a mission to ensure people living with a disability have the same control in choosing the housing option that suits them, with the people they want.
Let’s make a difference and give people with disabilities the choice they deserve. Join us in transforming the disability housing landscape for the better.
